Snoreplasty is a virtually painless office treatment for people who snore and have been found not to have severe apnea. The procedure is based on successful outcomes from Somnoplasty which uses radio frequency to reduce the soft tissue in the back of the throat. The new procedure uses a liquid medication which is injected and treats the tissue inside the soft palate in a similar fashion to Somnoplasty. The advantage of Injection Snoreplasty is that it does not require expensive machinery and is much more affordable (about one fourth the cost of Somnoplasty or laser surgery). Recent studies at Walter Reed Army Medical Center have proven the procedure safe and effective. Because we feel it is a safe procedure we are offering injection snoreplasty to our patients. Prior to undergoing the snoreplasty procedure the patient must:
Like Somnoplasty several sessions may be required although initial studies at Walter Reed have shown many patients will benefit from one session. If you snore loudly AND have pauses in your breathing for more than 10 seconds you may have sleep apnea, a potentially dangerous medical condition. This may require different, more specialized treatment. Please schedule an appointment with Dr. Autin if you or your family are bothered by snoring or sleep apnea. |
